TIPS
• Gauge is not important for this project. You can use any type of yarn you want; however, you
should use a slightly smaller sized hook than is recommended by the yarn label. You may need to
adjust a stitch here and a stitch there if you’re using a different size hook.
(Alice is 27 cm tall when made with indicated yarns and hooks, but your size may vary depending
on your yarn & hook size.)
• I always use an invisible decrease which makes the decreases look smoother and does not leave
any gaps in the work.
• Always work in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. This means you do not join at the end
of each round. So always use stitch markers!
• I used ‘yarn under hook’ rather than ‘yarn over hook’ but it’s completely up to you. You may end
up with a slightly bigger doll if you are using the yarn over hook method. If that’s the case, go up
a hook size for clothes and/or hair.
• Do not use safety eyes if you’re making this toy for a child under three; it’s safer to use black
embroidery thread to make the eyes.
• When you’re changing colors, always join the new color in the last stitch of the previous color.
• Remember to stuff as you go.
• The number before a stitch means you’ll be making that stitch in the following indicated number
of stitches. (4sc means you’ll make 1 sc for the next 4 stitches.)

SKIRT – Inner Layer (with 2.50 mm hook)
Start with off-white color yarn and chain 45. Sl st to the 1st ch to form a ring
and ch2.
We’ll sl st and ch2 at the end of every round, but don’t turn your work.
Fasten off and weave in ends. Pin it inside the outer skirt and sew.
Tip: Use blue yarn so that the stitches will stay hidden. Sew only at the
ridges, remember to check the pictures.
SKIRT – Outer Layer (with 2.50 mm hook)
Start with blue yarn and chain 30. Sl st to the 1st ch to form a ring and ch1.
We’ll sl st and ch1 at the end of every round, but don’t turn your work.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

APRON (with 2.50 mm hook)
I started with making 47 foundation hdc in white. If you don’t want to use this technique, you can just chain 49 and make
47 hdc starting from the 3rd ch from the hook. Mark the middle 9 stitches before you start!
We’ll start the shell pattern now. Ch3 counts as dc every time.

Make the first strap by going through the loops of the 1st st and the one
marked with blue stitch marker.
Make the second strap by going through the loops of the last st and the one
marked with pink stitch marker.
