Cherries Free Crochet Pattern

It’s been so long since I’ve added a new pattern to my fruit collection! I recently finished crocheting a sweater (the Sedona Sweater by TLYarn Crafts) and so I was looking for a quick and simple project to refresh my crochet palette with. Perfect opportunity to make these kawaii cherries!

They can be used as a keychain, a bag charm, or even as part of a summer garland with some other cute fruits. Check out my other fruit patterns here: pineapple, apple, watermelon, citrus fruits, avocado, and strawberry.

The Details

As usual, this pattern is made in the same style as all my patterns; separate pieces worked in flat rows and then joined together to give them that unique 2-D look. These cherries have 5 separate pieces.

The finished measurements are approximately 8.5cm/3.25″ from top to bottom.

Let’s get started!

• 2.75mm hook (I use THESE hooks!);

• Tivoli from Hobbii in colours #46 and #20 (this is a dk/weight 3 yarn. Any lightweight/category 3 yarn will work! You can also use weight 4/worsted; your cherries will just be a bit bigger.)

• Light pink for cheeks (teeny tiny amount);

• Black crochet thread for mouth;

• 6mm Safety Eyes;

• Sewing needle and black sewing thread (optional);

• Keyring (optional);

• Stuffing;

• Tapestry needle.

Terms;

Ch – Chain

Slst – Slip stitch

MR – Magic Ring

Sc – Single Crochet

Inc – Increase. Work a regular sc increase

Pattern

Cherry:

Make four (x4) using a 2.75mm hook. Panels are worked in continuous rounds. Mark the first st of each round in order to keep track of rounds.

Rnd 1: Work 6sc into MR (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12 sts)

Rnd 3: [Sc in first st, inc in next st]. Repeat [ ] around (18 sts)

Rnd 4: [Sc in first 2 sts, inc in next st]. Repeat [ ] around (24 sts)

Rnd 5: [Sc in first 3 sts, inc in next st]. Repeat [ ] around (30 sts)

Tie off. Weave ends to the back.

Stem:

Make one (x1) using a 2.75mm hook and green yarn.

Row 1: Ch 24, starting in second ch from hook, slst in first 11 chs, in 12th ch work [sc, ch 1, sc] all into same st, slst in each remaining 11 chs.

Tie off.

If you would like your stem to be a bit sturdier, you can crochet a second stem, put the two stems together and then crochet around both to join the two pieces (basically a double layered stem). You can also insert wire as you crochet the two pieces together for extra support.

Assembly:
Step 1: Face
First, we need to attach and stitch on your facial features to the front panel.

Using black crochet thread and your tapestry needle, or 6mm safety eyes, stitch/attach the eyes to two of the panels. Stitch on mouths and little cheeks!

Step 2: Body
Here are the pieces you should now have at this step.
First, cut two lengths of pink yarn about 30cm/ 12″each and set aside for later. Place the two body panels of the right-hand cherry together first, matching up all sides.

Make sure the front is facing you as you crochet around the outside.

Starting on the left side in the middle, begin attaching the panels together by single crocheting around the outside of the panels.

Crochet most of the way around. Stuff.

When you are satisfied with the stuffing, insert the end of the stem (the right-hand prong of the stem) and sew between the panels of the cherry at the top using the length of yarn that you set aside earlier. Tie a knot to secure and hide the yarn tails between the panels of the cherry.

Continue crocheting around. Close with a slst to first st. Tie off. With your tapestry needle, poke the yarn tail back inside the piece.

Repeat the above assembly for the second (left-hand) cherry! Make sure the stem is not twisted when you attach it to the second cherry.
