Hair (Optional):

Cut four 15 in strands of yarn in the colors Purple, Pink, Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. Once you’ve sewn the ears and horn to the head, loop 2 strands at a time through the top of the hat in a line from the back of the horn to the back of the head. You can choose the order of the colors to suit what you like best.

Tail:

Step 1: Cut one 5 in strands of yarn in each of the following colors: Pink, Purple, Blue, Yellow, Red, and Green.

Step 2: Figure out where you want to place your tail and pick up a stitch, take your yarn and use your hook to loop the yarn through. Take a scrap piece of white yarn and tie the tail together.

Butterfly Buddy:

Step one (antenna): ch 6 and fasten off and cut the ends short but not short enough to make it come undone.

Step two (body): in mc, ch 1, 1 sc, 2 hdc, 1 sc, sl st and ch 3, 3 dc, sl st and ch 3, 3 dc and sl st,1 sc, 2 hdc, 1 sc and sl st. Ch 6 and wrap it around the body to shape the butterfly, place the antenna on the top of the butterfly as you do this to secure it. Fasten off and sew the chain to secure it.

Finishing:

  1. Sew the head to the body. Add some stuffing as you do this to give the neck some structure.
  2. Place the hat on the head, I did not sew the hat to the head because it’s a snug fit and I think it looks better but you can sew it if you’d like.
  3. Fold the ears and sew them to the top of the head/hat.
  4. Sew the horn to the front middle of the head/hat.
  5. Sew the arms to the body.
  6. Sew the belly piece to the front of the body.
  7. Follow the instructions above to finish the hair and tail.
  8. Sew the butterfly buddy wherever you’d like, I chose to sew it to the front of the body near the left leg.

I hope you’ve enjoyed working on this pattern because now you have your very own Unity the Unicorn with a cute little butterfly buddy! This one I had requested from my family and friends after they saw my Bumble the Bear pattern which is also available for free here
