MATERIALS and TOOLS
• Cotton yarn:
Light brown (Bella Pingouin No. 704)
White (Bella Pingouin No. 002)
Light Pink (Bella Pingouin No. 1352)
Acqua (Bella Pingouin No. 622)
Dark brown (Bella Pingouin No. 1785)
• Crochet hook 2,25mm
• Fluffy yarn for the hair:
Dark brown (Pérola Pingouin No. 713)
• Crochet hook 4,50mm
• Embroidery floss: pink, lilac, black and acqua
(darker then the acqua yarn)
• Crochet hook 1,50mm
• Soft stuffing
• A pair of 5mm safety eyes
• A pair of small white buttons of the cape
• 1 small safety pin for the flower
• Wooden or plastic lollypop stick
• Scissors, tapestry needle, stitch markers,
sewing pins, sewing needle, sewing thread
(hair color), craft glue.
• Optional: Wire, pliers, floral tape, hot glue stick
SIZE
24 cm (9,5”) using Bella Pingouin 100% cotton yarn
and Clover Soft Touch crochet hook 2,25mm.
CONSTRUCTION
Legs, body and head are worked together, from the
bottom to the top. Arms are sewn to the main part.
NOTES
• Work in continuous spirals, without closing off
the rounds with a slip stitch. Use a stitch marker
or a piece of contrasting color yarn to mark the
beginning of each round.
• Crochet tightly to prevent little gaps between
the stitches, or try a smaller crochet hook.
• Stuff firmly. Use the stuffing to help you to
shape your pieces. Before closing a part, check
if you still need to stuff it a little bit more.
• For smaller or larger amigurumis, use thinner or
bulkier yarn, and adjust the size of your crochet
hooks and other embellishments.
WIRE
The wire structures used in the right arm and in
the neck/head are optional. But they allow the
head to be posable while avoiding a floppy neck,
and the right arm to bend in order to hold the
unicorn toy.
If your doll is for small children, don’t use the
wire. You can use a hot glue stick instead.
NECK AND HEAD
Cut approx. 25cm of wire and shape it as in the picture.
You can wrap the wire around a round
object to shape the part that goes inside the
head. With the help of a plier, bend both ends
and wrap them together with floral tape.
RIGHT ARM
Cut approx. 10cm of wire, bend both ends and
wrap them with floral tape.
SWATCHES
Different hooks and yarns can give smaller of
bigger stitches. But when you use different types
of yarn in the same project, it is very important
to keep the proportions right. You can make
your own swatches and use the ones below as a
reference. Note that the body swatch is half the
size of the hair swatch.

leaving a long tail for sewing
HAIR STRANDS
Now, let’s make 6 hair strands. Remove the cap
from the head and insert the hook in the next
stitch, draw up a loop to join a new piece of
yarn, chain 38 and fasten off. Repeat in the
next 5 stitches as following:
2nd strand – ch39,
3rd strand – ch40,
4th strand – ch32,
5th strand – ch31,
6th strand – ch30.
Weave in the ends.
ASSEMBLY
Put the cap back on and divide the strands in
2 groups of 3, aligning the division as shown
below. Pin the cap in place and sew it to the
head with cotton yarn.
Twist 3 strands together to the right and 3 to
the left. Join all strands on the left side of the
head. Wrap them together a few times with
a piece of cotton yarn and tie a couple of knots
to make a side pony tail. Pin the strands in
place. Sew the hair strands onto the head
without leaving any space between them and
the hair cap. Trim the ends irregularly.
Note: You can use craft glue to attach the cap
and the hair strands to the head.
EARS
Now you can fold the base of the ears in half and
sew them to the cap between rounds 4 and 5,
aligned to the eyes.
– HAIR –
The cap and the hair strands are crocheted
using 1 strand of fluffy yarn and 1 strand of
cotton yarn in the same color and a 4,50mm
crochet hook. Crochet more loosely or try a
bigger hook.

turn (24)
Row5. 3sc, 6sc in ch space, 8sc, 6sc in ch space,
3sc (26).
Put the dress on. If it’s
too short, undo the
last 2 rows, and make
1 or 2 more rows of
22sts before the row
where the armholes are
placed.
Fasten off leaving a long tail. With pink
embroidery floss, make a row of slip stitches
around the waist of the dress (between the skirt
and the upper part). Leave enough yarn tail at
the beginning and at the end to tie a bow after
you put the dress on and sew the ends together.
TIP: Put a dot of glue on the top of the bow
to so it won’t untie.
– CROCHET RIBBON –
With acqua. Chain45. Work all stitches
in the back ridge of the chain.
Row1. 44slst (44)
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
– FLOWER –

[1sc, 1inc] x2 (32)
Fasten off, and finish off as shown above.
This technique will create a ‘fake’ stitch.
Hold both soles together, wrong side
with wrong side. Insert the hook in the
‘fake’ stitch of one sole and in the directly
opposite stitch of the other sole.
Draw up a loop of white yarn and join both
soles together with a round of slip stitches.
Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
Now, let’s make the upper part of the shoes.
Work with a new piece of white yarn. Insert
the hook into both loops of first slip stitch
of the previous round and draw up a loop.
Make the next sc in the same stitch.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing
the ears between rounds 2 and 3 of the head,
2 stitches apart.
– BRAIDED MANE –
Cut 9 pieces of lilac embroidery floss measuring
25 cm and fold them in half. Pass the loop
formed by the fold around the horn, and sew it
to the front of the horn.
In the back, divide the strands in 3 equal parts
and braid the mane until it has the same length
of the neck. Wrap the end of the braid a few
times with a piece of the same floss and secure
with a couple of knots. Glue the braid onto the
neck from the top to the bottom. Trim the ends.
